Scarves!

I have just returned from a lovely holiday in Florida where the weather was a gorgeous 28+ every single day.  I step off of the plane in Bristol and what greets me? Grey skies, a lack luster drizzle and a terrible chill. The weather has changed and whenever this time of year rolls around I am reminded of a line from a Death Cab for Cutie: 'I don't mind the weather, I've got scarves and caps and sweaters.'

It is Autumn/Winter fashion time which is my favourite time for fashion. Jewel colours! Layers! Boots! Shaving isn't mandatory and I don't feel guilty for my love of pale skin and hatred of fake tan. One of the staples of Winter fashion that I have never been able to master however is decorative scarves. I love the look of them on other people but can never get them to hang right on me. This does not stop my love of them however and Ollie&Nic have just launched a mid season sale that has a scarf in it that I fell in love with a month ago when I'd already spent all of my pay.

This Winter Rose scarf is currently on sale down from £28 to £20. I loved this from the moment I saw it. The pinks and reds compliment the grey so nicely and could make a basic top really pop. I'm crossing my fingers hoping it will still be there when my next pay comes in! It also comes in blue if grey isn't your thing.

Summer isn't over yet!

Here we are in the middle of August and all I see are grey clouds. I'm not sure why I'm ever surprised by this but I am not getting out the Winter boots and tights just yet. No! If we fight back perhaps we can beat this wet and dreary weather into submission. And if that fails? I have a sunny holiday booked for September anyway so Summer clothes will be needed anyway.

I love casual, easy dresses that I can wear to work. Especially if they are vintage and look a little different to the clothes that everyone else is rocking. Usually, my bank balance can't stretch to hand made vintage but I have found a shop that has beautiful things all at a bargain price. Check out Jennifer Lilly. I was lucky enough to receive one of her dresses as a gift not too long ago but I have since fallen in love with this light and airy number:

At only £28 including postage and packing it is a steal! She has plenty of dresses on her website, but there seems to be an issue with the page at the moment, so I recommend purchasing through her Etsy shop for now.

Kurt Halsey

I love web comics with a passion. The internet is a wonderful thing but one of the best things about it is showcasing the talent that so many people have across the world. I am not artistically gifted but I love people who are. One of my favourite artists is Kurt Halsey. I remember when I first discovered him on some random Livejournal page (ouch, that makes me feel old) back in the day and just thinking his art work was adorable.

Jump forward almost a decade and he's still at it! Creating amazingly cute, heart warming graphics for you to not only feast your eyes on on the web but in books and prints as well.

How lovely is that? You can get the selection of his work above for just $20 (approx £12.56)

If you would prefer something to hang around your neck rather than on your wall well then, feast your eyes on this beauty:

Also made by Kurt Halsey but sold via ArtStar on Etsy. This comes in two different lengths depending  on where you would like the birds to settle on your chest. It can be yours for only £24.24 including postage. It is already on my birthday wish list and I am counting down the days till it will be mine!

Welcome.

Sweet Heart Scene is an alternative lifestyle blog for the everyperson.

I currently work within the council inside the social services department. Suffice to say, things can be pretty grim sometimes. That's not to say that amazing, wonderful, beautiful things don't happen it's just few and far between which is a shame.

I wish the newspapers had more good news, I wish it was sunny more than it was cloudy and I really wish everything delicious wasn't inherently bad for you. This bog is hopefully the silver lining to what is frequently a grey cloudy day in the UK.
